General Information Weekly private lessons are offered in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions, depending on the student’s age/ level.
At The Studio Students are expected to arrive for lessons in a timely manner, with all required materials and music. To discuss student progress, parents are welcome to talk with the teacher during the first five minutes of the student’s lesson— but not afterwards, in order to respect the next student’s time slot. Music lessons run on time, so it is essential that you arrive on time. Late arrivals will have a shorter lesson period.
Practice and Instrument Private students are expected to practice daily on a well-maintained acoustic piano. Acoustic pianos should be tuned once a year.
Materials Students are recommended to use a tote bag to carry books to and from lessons. The student will be given an assignment notebook at their first lesson, which will be used keep track of assigned pieces and practice suggestions/goals for each week. The teacher will obtain all needed books and materials for the student. There are additional cost for books and materials.
Calendar and Schedule Refer to the Studio Plan.
Tuition and Payment Payment is required on the first week of each month. The teacher reserves the right to raise fees at the beginning of each year. We do not offer refunds for missed lessons. No deduction can be made on account of absence, as the expenses incurred in maintaining efficiency of the program are not lessened by the temporary absence of the students.
24-Hour Cancellation Policy In case a scheduled music lesson needs to be missed, the student or parent must notify the studio at least 24 hours in advance in order to be eligible for a make up lesson.
Late notifications (within 24 hours) and/or no shows, for any reason, cannot be made up, nor will tuition be refunded.
Makeup Lessons It is the responsibility of the student/parent to schedule make-up lessons. Make-up lessons are given on the mutual agreement between student and teacher. Make-up lessons not scheduled within the year of the lesson date missed are forfeited by the student. No refunds, full or partial, will be given for make-up lessons not scheduled within one year (December makeup credit will carry forward to the following year).
If students cannot arrange a make-up lesson due to scheduling conflicts then the student must forfeit the make-up lesson. No refunds, full or partial will be given. Make-up lessons missed by the student for any reason will NOT be made up.
If the student’s teacher is unable to teach a lesson, we will provide an excellent substitute for the lesson. If a substitute cannot be secured, we will notify you, by text and/ or phone to reschedule the lesson. Make-up lesson missed or cancelled by the teacher will be made-up or a tuition adjustment for the next month will be made
Discontinuing Lessons Every student stops taking lesson at some point. Ideally, this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so that lessons can cease with a positive sense of closure. For this reason, the teacher asks for one month’s notice in writing prior to discontinuing lessons. However, the teacher respects the student’s right to end lessons at any time.
Note: At the discretion of the teacher, students may be asked to discontinue lessons at any time if they have unpaid tuition, an excess amount of absences/unprepared lessons.
Parent Participation Parents are encouraged to be supportive and active participants in practice at home. Parents are also encouraged to attend and quietly observe lessons approximately once a month.
Studio Events Each year, the studio schedules a number of exciting events for private students and their parents.
Studio Classes
Studio Classes typically include a theory segment, history segment, and a performance segment. With young private students, music & movement activities are also frequently included. With adult private students, there is a focus on piano literature history and repertoire performance in a relaxed environment.

Performing in a formal recital setting is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and improvement over the year in the presence of their family and friends. The recital is held once a year (November).
